Lower School students busily celebrated International Day in mid-October. Fun activities designed to teach about the country and culture of Germany were enjoyed by all. Each of our resource teachers set up a station with a specific focus.
- Mrs. Trettel had students design a character from one of the German fairy tales they'd read in drama class;
- Mrs. Culver taught about Black Forest wood carving followed by an art activity;
- Mrs. Johnson engaged students in a game called Faules Ei (our version of ‘Duck Duck Goose');
- Mrs. Ivill’s class members created booklets and bookmarks about The Nutcracker after reading the beloved tale in class;
- Mr. Linares’ class produced puppets and had them annunciate counting activities in German;
- Mr. Granell's students visited famous landmarks in Germany using Google Earth.
The grand finale featured the Lower School students performing a song they learned in music class called Johnny Schomker.
Additionally, the group watched a video from a former missionary to Germany (see video below). They concluded the program by praying for the people of Germany.
