What brought you to Banner Christian?
I spent 3 years working in college athletics prior to coming to Banner. I wanted a career in athletics but also wanted to have more of an impact on students and specifically, student athletes. Banner is a school that aligns with my values and makes me excited about its growing athletic program!
My private Christian school experience, specifically competing in athletics, had a lasting impact on my life. It gave me a passion to pursue a career developing young people through athletics.
What is your vision for our Banner athletic program?
We want our athletic teams to be competitive — competing for conference and state championships this year. This also means we strive to have an athletic program that has student athletes who are successful in both the classroom and on the playing field.
Hosting athletic competitions on Banner’s campus is also a goal — having people come out to watch our teams compete and be a part of our community. Our goal is to have MS, JV, and Varsity teams for every sport we offer.
While creating a strong reputation for Banner’s athletic program across the state, we also want our athletic department to mirror the school’s emphasis on education excellence.
What value do you see in our students playing sports?
The value in playing sports are the lessons we can apply to life, and more importantly, our walk with the Lord. Student Athletes learn what it looks like to lead others and also themselves as each student athlete develops lifelong skills such as time management, teamwork, and commitment. We want to equip our student athletes to take these skills and use them in their lives.
Tell us more about upcoming spring sports.
As of now, it looks like we have potential to have Baseball, Boys & Girls Track, and Boys & Girls Golf. More information will be coming on spring sports in the next month. We are planning to get the Lower School involved this Spring with Soccer — stay tuned for more details on that!
How do we get involved? (both as lower & upper school students and families)
The best way to get involved is by coming out and supporting our student athletes at their competition, we have plenty of home games! Stay up-to-date with our athletic calendar and what's happening with our teams (which is published on our website and in our new joint newsletter).
Looking for Volunteer Opportunities? We have an immediate need.
Our Athletic Department needs all hands on deck for the 2023 VCC Boys & Girls Basketball Tournament. Banner has the privilege of serving as this year's tournament host. This is an incredible opportunity, and a direct reflection on the success our teams have had this year on and off the court. On Friday, February 24th & Saturday February 25th, we will need volunteers at Richard Bland College helping work the admission table and also our concession stand. Both Varsity teams have the opportunity for postseason play. Our varsity boys are the favorites heading into playoffs! We would love and appreciate your support for this major event.
