Kindergarten Teacher

Tammy Leinonen, a beloved member of the Banner Christian School community, has dedicated herself to shaping the young minds of kindergartners. Affectionately known as "The Sea Buddies Class," Tammy's kindergarten classroom is a place filled with laughter, learning, and memorable adventures.

Tammy brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her role as a kindergarten teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Her educational journey took her to a diverse range of teaching experiences, including student teaching in a second-grade classroom at an historic private day school in a Detroit suburb. Following that, she spent five years teaching second grade at an inner-city Christian school just outside of Detroit.

In her pursuit of nurturing young minds, Tammy also took on the role of teaching Spanish to kindergarten through fifth-grade students in Northville, Michigan. Upon moving to Virginia in 2009, she continued her dedication to education, teaching first grade for one year and kindergarten for two at another Christian school. Currently, she is entering her third year at Banner Christian.

Tammy's commitment to fostering the academic and personal growth of her students is rooted in her faith and dedication to Christian education. She is not only a teacher but also a parent, as her son, Luke, is a student at Banner Culpeper. Her husband, Mark, who works as an Electrical Engineer at the Coast Guard Headquarters in DC, shares in the joy of this journey.

Family is incredibly important to Tammy. Her twenty-five-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, married Michael, a Marine, in 2018, and they live on the Fort Meade base in Maryland. While they eagerly await the arrival of grandchildren, Tammy and her family embrace the anticipation of new additions with love and patience.
