Dr. Bernie Jernigan
Born in Madison, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville, Dr. Jernigan has embarked on a journey that spans various states, from Tennessee to Texas, West Virginia, and finally, Culpeper, Virginia. He arrived in Culpeper back in 2004, answering a divine calling to lead Open Door Baptist Church. However, the story doesn't stop there.
Dr. Jernigan's academic voyage began at a small, non-accredited college in Nashville, where he earned his Bachelor's degree with a minor in Seminary Prep in 1989. Following his heart's calling, he commenced his pastoral career in Nashville the same year.
In 1992, he pursued a higher calling to further his knowledge and attended Dallas Theological Seminary in Texas. Four years later, he graduated with a Masters in Theology. His journey took him to Oak Hill, West Virginia, where he pastored from 1998 to 2004.
Following yet another calling, he and his wife ventured to Culpeper, Virginia, in 2004 to lead Open Door Baptist Church. In 2011, Dr. Jernigan obtained his Doctorate in Ministry from Liberty University.
Driven by his deep passion for teaching the Bible, he followed yet another calling and joined the Banner family. What could be a better fit for a man whose life revolves around the Word of God than a school that echoes his passion for putting Christ first in education?
Dr. Jernigan's unique teaching approach stems from a heartfelt desire to help students understand the Bible's relevance in their daily lives. He seeks to ignite their faith and evangelism, showing them how to share their faith and glorify God in all they do.
Outside the classroom, Dr. Jernigan is an avid football fan, passionately supporting the Tennessee Volunteers and the Washington Commanders. He's also a fervent Dallas Cowboys fan, and when the thrill of sports doesn't occupy his time, he enjoys indulging his automotive racing enthusiasm and working on hands-on projects. You might also spot him building model cars and tending to his garden.
