Middle School English & ESL

Tonette Hayes, a native of Richmond, has been a part of the Banner community for over sixteen years, initially as a parent enrolling her children in the school. She holds a B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.Ed. and M.A. in TESOL from Grand Canyon University.

Tonette is passionate about providing comprehensive instruction to enhance reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and linguistic acquisition and competency. She chose a career at Banner due to her desire to deliver quality education while sharing the gospel, aligning perfectly with the school’s mission.

Her unique approach to teaching involves cultivating the four language domains: reading, writing, listening, and speaking through engaging literature, rigorous grammar, meaningful reading, and consistent writing. This approach makes her memorable to students even years later.

In her spare time, Tonette can be found at the local gym participating in various classes such as Zumba, Pilates, Step, and Spin.
