Middle & Upper School History

Hailing from North Carolina and Florida, Paul Ivill made his way to Virginia due to a job opportunity. His career path took a turn when he joined the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as a mailman for 19 years. He felt led by the Lord to apply for the Athletic Director position at Banner in 2007, where his wife was employed and his two sons were students.

Paul is an alumnus of Elon University with a B.S. in Physical Education. He currently teaches History at Banner and is passionate about integrating biblical history into the history of mankind. He aims to show students how God has influenced people, countries, and governments throughout history.

In his teaching approach, Paul strives to make the curriculum engaging and fun by using a variety of methods such as question and answer sessions, discussions, projects, group work, videos, games, and lectures. His goal is to foster a trusting relationship with his students, encouraging them to ask questions that will aid their walk with Christ.

In his spare time, Paul enjoys golfing, spending time in the pool or at the beach, hanging out with family, watching sports and movies, and reading.
